Rise Labs—an artificial intelligence, big data and people analytics-focused talent and work readiness centre—is calling on applications for the first-ever Artificial Intelligence (AI) Ideathon in Nigeria.

*Ideathons differ from hackathons in that they usually run for a short period of time (could be six hours, depending on the number of participants). Participants present innovative ideas and collaborate on possible solutions.*

The 2019 Rise Labs AI Ideathon is open to students, data scientists, developers, professionals and academics across the country; and ideas capable of revolutionizing Nigeria's agriculture, education, and healthcare systems as well as financial inclusion using AI and machine learning models and methodologies.

In addition to providing innovative solutions to the country's challenges, the AI Ideathon aims to encourage research and collaboration in AI innovation and  increase the use of AI-driven results across sectors.

According to a statement made available to benjamindada.com, the deadline for submission, initially set for 11:59 PM on Friday, September 20, has been extended to September 30, 2019, to accommodate submissions from more innovators.

Rise Labs is owned by Rise Networks, a leading social enterprise based in Lagos, using technology innovation to create advocacy, skills empowerment and learning opportunities for the youths. Some of its flagship projects include passnownow.com—a mobile learning portal for high school students and teachers—and Ise the job bot—a career coaching chatbot.

According to McKinsey, a leading management consulting company, AI is projected to transform various industries. By 2030, adoption of AI could raise global GDP by $13 trillion or contribute about 1.2% additional GDP growth per year. Similarly, chatbots such as Ise, the job bot by Rise Labs are projected cut business cost by $8 billion by 2022.
