Spotify has released its weekly charts about Nigeria’s music scene between June 24-30.

Leading global music streaming service provider, Spotify released its weekly charts about Nigeria’s music scene between June 24 and 30.

Some of the biggest highlights were Teni climbing 104 spots at #89 on the top artists' list, Omo ope by Asake and Made in Lagos, Deluxe edition by Wizkid retaining a position in the top songs and top albums category respectively for 20 weeks straight.

The music streaming platform released its weekly charts which include the top artists, top albums, and top songs.

For the top artists' category for the week was Teni who moved up 104 spots to #89 on the top artists' list. Another surprise for the week was Charlie Puth who is the highest new entry on Top artists Nigeria at #127.

In the top songs category, Kendrick Lamar’s Rich Spirit was the biggest climber in Nigeria as it moved up 45 spots to #105. Also, Dababy’s jam featuring Davido, Showing off her body made the highest new entry on top songs Nigeria at #11.

It was no surprise as talented Afropop and Afrobeat singer, Asake’s song, Omo Ope made it to the top songs for the week again. The “Peace Be Unto You” crooner’s song has been on the list for 20 weeks straight, the longest by any Nigerian artist.

The song which featured one of Africa’s most influential and biggest rappers and singers, Olamide currently is number 10 on the top music videos in Nigeria on Youtube. It presently has more than 11,000,000 views on Youtube.

Chris Brown’s song collaboration with Wizkid, Call me everyday, had the most spots on Top songs Nigeria. It landed at #5.

For the top album category, Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind had the most spots on Top Albums Nigeria at #4. The biggest gainer for this category was True 2 Myself by Lil Tjay which moved up 47 spots to #130.

One of Nigeria’s music exports, Wizkid has continued to break records on the Spotify charts with his hit song  Made In Lagos: Deluxe Edition being on Top Albums Nigeria for 20 weeks straight. Breezy by Chris Brown also recorded the highest new entry on Top Albums.

Nigeria’s music industry has grown in recent years and music artists from the country have been making waves not only in Africa but globally. According to data released by Spotify in April 2022 on Nigeria’s local genres being exported across the globe, 30% of the Nigerian Alte genre is being streamed in the US, with a growth of more than 200% over the past year. Also, over 40% of Afropop from Nigeria is streamed in the US, UK and France.
