Why you should visit Namibia

Aside from the reliable internet connectivity and the friendliness of the Namibian people, some reasons why you should visit Namibia include:

1. Cheap requirement fee

For those travelling solo, Namibia’s digital nomad visa is significantly cheaper than the likes of Costa Rica (which requires you to earn at least $3,000 per month) or the nearly $7,000 required for Iceland or $4,000 for Barbados.

Although, Namibia's monthly income requirement is slightly more expensive than that of Mauritius, one of the other African countries with a similar nomad visa scheme. The latter's Premium Visa requires single applicants to earn at least $1,500 a month, which goes up to $3,000 for a couple, with a $500 supplement per child.

2. Breathtaking landscapes

Namibia has an incredible landscape diversity; from the dry desert with massive sand dunes of the Sandwich harbour where the desert meets the sea to the wetlands and jungles in the north.

Another thing to see is the ancient rock engravings at Twyfelfontain, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007 and dates back to an estimated 6000 years. Also, you can go stargazing in the NamibRand Nature Reserve - the first dark sky reserve in Africa.

3. Excellent road infrastructure

The South Western African country is recognised as one of the countries with the best road infrastructure in Africa, getting to and from any place has never been easier. Namibia has a number of trusted and reliable accredited registered car rental entities.

To fully immerse yourself in all the beauty the country has to offer, you can book a tour around Namibia with a number of trusted and reliable accredited registered car rental entities in the country.

4. Online Visa application process

The application process for the Namibian digital nomad visa can be completed online. All that is required is to complete this online form which can be downloaded, filled and sent to nomadvisa[at]nipdb[dot]com. The application fee is $62 which will be required upon arrival as payment for the visa.

Requirements for Namibia’s Digital Nomad Visa

Applicants wanting to take advantage of the Namibia Digital Nomad Visa will have to prove that they earn enough money to be self-sufficient.

Single applicants must earn more than $2000 per month. If you are coming with dependents, your accompanying spouse must earn $1,000 per month, and you need to have a budget of $500 per child every month.

So, for a typical family of four, earnings of $4000 per month are required. This money needs to come from income, payslips, employment contracts, etc. It cannot be from savings.

Another requirement is a 6 months bank statement. This requirement is standard, however, 6 months is a bit longer than the norm. You also need a motivation letter from your employer, which again is not a typical requirement for other Digital Nomad Visas.

You must also provide copies of your qualifications and a police clearance certificate from your country of origin.

The final requirement is medical insurance. This can be covered by travel insurance for the 6-month visit, or standard medical insurance in Namibia. In addition to this, the applicant must provide a medical certificate and a radiological report.
