If you're struggling to secure admission through JAMB UTME, the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) program offers an alternative pathway to your dream university.

By successfully completing JUPEB, you can gain Direct Entry admission into the 2nd year (200 level) of your preferred course.

To be safer, candidates are advised to register earlier for JUPEB—ideally right after their JAMB UTME registration or post-WAEC exams. This proactive approach keeps you academically alert, preventing the all-too-common scenario of an idle year at home.

What is JUPEP?

JUPEB is a national examination body approved by the Nigerian government. It provides an Advanced Level (A'Level) program similar to IJMB. Upon successful completion, JUPEB grants you Direct Entry admission into 2nd year (200 level) at participating universities.

Why enroll for the program?

  • To bypass UTME: Gain admission without facing JAMB's competitive UTME exams.
  • Inclusion of a wider range of courses: JUPEB offers various courses in Science, Arts, and Social Sciences.
  • It is nationally recognized: JUPEB is accepted by many Nigerian universities (check the official JUPEB website for details).

Who is eligible for JUPEB?

The eligibility process for the JUPEB program is straightforward. To qualify, you need to have secured a minimum of five credit passes in relevant O'Level subjects. These subjects can be from WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB examinations, and you should have completed them within a maximum of two sittings.

Additionally, if you're currently awaiting the results of your O'Level exams, you're also welcome to apply for the JUPEB program. This inclusive approach ensures that a wide range of students have the opportunity to advance their education without unnecessary delays.

Important Dates for the JUPEB 2024 application

JUPEB 2024 applications close May 17 at midnight. For confirmed dates regarding the upcoming application period, visit the official JUPEB website homepage to see the Academic Calendar for the current year.

Deadlines for admissions processes may vary by institution. Always check with your desired university for specific dates and requirements related to their JUPEB program.

JUPEB vs. IJMB:

The fiercely competitive nature of Nigerian university admissions pushes many students to explore alternatives to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam.

Two prominent options have emerged as lifelines for aspiring undergraduates: JUPEB (Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board) and IJMB (Interim Joint Matriculation Board).

Established in 2014 by a consortium of universities led by the University of Lagos, JUPEB is a relatively new program. Created after the National Universities Commission (NUC) suspended diploma programs, JUPEB filled the gap with a government-approved alternative for university admission.

Predating JUPEB, IJMB is a well-established program managed by Ahmadu Bello University. It has served as a reliable avenue for university admission, particularly in Northern Nigeria.

Here's a brief comparison to help you decide which which program best aligns with your academic aspirations:

Consider these points when deciding:

  • University Preference: Check if your desired university accepts JUPEB or IJMB.
  • Financial Strength: JUPEB fees are typically higher.
  • Examination Period: JUPEB exams are in May/June, IJMB in February.
