CcHub and MusicTechSpace announce the launch of Music-Tech Innovation Challenge 2020

Starting from September 7, 2020, CcHub, in collaboration with MusicTechSpace, will be holding a workshop for tech innovators interested in the music industry.

Founded in 2019 by Bez Idakula, MusicTechSpace is an innovation and community platform that focuses on the intersections between music and technology.

The challenge is geared at finding, and identifying innovative solutions that can be applied in the Nigerian music industry, which has been plagued by many problems. Piracy, illegal distribution and lack of structure are some of the challenges that have continued unabated in the industry, costing labels and artistes millions of  naira every year.

The organizers will be looking out for solutions in four key opportunity areas in the music industry, which are expected to benefit greatly from technology:

  • Legal advisory for artists
  • Digitization of label operations
  • Artist Management
  • Event Management

The event which is to be held online will be driven by four key experts in the music industry. They are Audu Maikori (Founder, Chocolate City Group), Ms Uduak Oduok (Founder, Africa Music Law), Godwin Tom (Founder, The Godwin Tom Company and iManage Africa Entertainment) and Wale Davies (Founder, Palmwine Music Festival.

The facilitators will help create awareness for the challenge, guide prospective applicants on submitting quality solutions, shortlist the final ideas and finally, test the solutions for viability.

There will also be ideation workshops where participants will get insight into some of the challenges facing the unique landscape of the Nigerian music industry and how to scale them.

The selected solutions will proceed to a 3-month incubation period where they will be supported by CcHub and the facilitators in fine-tuning their solutions into market-ready products. Solutions that show the potential to scale are also likely to receive funding from CcHub and other investors.

The challenge is open to only individuals resident in Nigeria. Interested applicant can apply here.
