Meet the 7 Nigerian startups exhibiting at TechCrunch Disrupt 2022

TechCrunch Disrupt is a three-day startup conference focused on bringing the global startup community together to discover insights, collaborate and celebrate achievements that have defined successful founders’ journeys and those yet to come in the future.

The annual event leverages big-name thought leaders who are making waves in the startup industry to speak at panel discussions, activations and round table sessions.

Disrupt is a valuable event for founders who want to master Silicon Valley’s equations, and provides an experience for enthusiasts who want to be a part of what's happening and relevant now.

Notable founders who have been featured as speakers at Disrupt include Mark Zuckerberg Founder, Facebook; Marc Benioff, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Salesforce.com and Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, Inc.

Some Nigerian founders who have spoken at TechCrunch’s Disrupt are Tope Awotona (founder and CEO of Calendly, Mitchell Elegbe (MD/CEO of Interswitch), Ngozi Dozie (CEO & Co-founder, Carbon), Adewale Yusuf CEO & Co-Founder, Altschool, Kelvin Umechukwu (CEO & Co-founder, Bumpa).

Disrupt will also feature the Startup Battlefield 200. This is a two hundred hand-picked, early-stage startups who get the chance to showcase their latest developments and innovations, 20 of which will be selected as finalists to compete for a $100,000 grand prize on the Disrupt Stage.

Four African startups got selected to compete among the Startup battlefield 200. They are Oze (Ghana), PressOne (Nigeria), AltSchool (Nigeria) and Shekels (Nigeria).

In addition, Startup Alley is a major part of Disrupt where over 1,000 pre-series A startups and sponsors across all verticals will be showcasing their latest tech products, platforms and services.

The Nigerian startups who got the opportunity to exhibit at Disrupt’s 2022 Startup Alley are Altschool, Bumpa, Dojah, Rohealth, Sendchamp, PressOne and Vzy.

1. Altschool Africa

Altschool is building a school for the next 1 billion students in emerging markets, which represents the tech pipeline needed to fuel the Future of Work.

The edtech startup founded last year by Adewale Yusuf, Ope Awo and Sultan Akintade equips Nigerian youths with the in-demand skills to go from beginner to junior and mid-level engineers.

2. Bumpa

Bumpa is an ecommerce platform which offers 360 business management experience such as business websites, invoices, sales records, financial reports and business management operations for small businesses across Africa.

The startup is building its infrastructure to enable African small business owners to start, manage and grow their businesses from their mobile devices. Bumpa was founded by Kelvin Umechukwu (who is one of the speakers at Disrupt 2022) and Adetunji Opaleye.

3. Dojah

Dojah helps businesses verify identity, beat fraud, stay compliant and onboard customers safely. The KYC and user onboarding platform provides wholistic end-to-end identity verification APIs and tools for digital services targeting Africa.

Dojah offers a means to validate user identities through means like liveness check, biometric verification and validating IDs with OTPs. The startup was founded in 2021 by Tobiloba Ololade and Ayomide Oso.

4. roHealth

roHealth helps employers and employees make better health coverage decisions in Nigeria. Employers use the platform by uploading their employees and setting a budget. Employees can then choose from over 100 health plans from top HMOs in Nigeria.

Typically, all employees of an organisation are signed on to one HMO plan of the company’s choosing. But with roHealth, employers sign up to the platform and onboard their employees, who, in turn, can choose an HMO they prefer, based on location, accessibility, and other needs. The startup was founded by Olalekan Olude in 2021.

5. Sendchamp

Sendchamp provides communication APIs & CRM for developers & businesses to reach their customers via SMS, Voice, email, WhatsApp channels. The messaging platform’s mission is to improve customer relations for technical and non-technical business owners.

Through its solutions, Sendchamp allows African businesses to create deeper relationships with their customers. It was founded by Goodness Kayode and Damilola Olotu.

6. PressOne

PressOne Africa provides international phone numbers for African SMEs at affordable prices. The startup provides a shared business number which teams can use to attend to more than one customer at the same time.

PressOne's solution help entrepreneurs position themselves as credible, improve customer service and increase sales. The startup was founded by Mayowa Okegbenle and Opeyemi Shokunbi.

7. Vzy

Vzy will help anyone create websites, sell digital products, collect payments, manage customer contacts and understand their business analytics all in one platform.

Entrepreneurs can create beautiful, fast and secure websites in minutes on the platform with no coding skills required. Vzy will be launched in October 2022 by Evans Akanno.
